Art Class: Colored Pencils
10:00 am - 2:00 pm - May 28, 2019
This class will serve as an introduction to colored pencils and watercolor colored pencils using new pastel mat pastel paper. We will use watercolor colored pencil to apply an underpainting of color, then use a water pen brush to go over underpainting to dissolve the wax in the watercolor pencil layer. The drawing is allowed to dry overnight. The drawing is finished with layers of colored pencil applied over the underpainting. In the second half of the class we will use watercolor colored pencils and watercolor graphite pencils to make prints with a small press. This class will run from May – June. Advanced registration is required and there is a limited number of slots for the class, so please call the library - or visit the front desk in person - to sign up. The fee for the class is $20 and click here to see the supply list: Colored Pencil Class Supply List For any further questions please call Pat Knight at 970-883-2327. "Chasing Denali" Author Visit
11:00 am - 12:30 pm - June 1, 2019
The history of mountaineering began on Denali with the legendary story of four gold miners who claimed to have summited after climbing more than 8,000 feet of steep snow and ice, then descended - in a single and incredibly dangerous day in 1910 - all the while lugging a 25-pound, 14-foot flagpole to mark their success. Was the expedition a success or a hoax? Detailed in his newest book "Chasing Denali", Denali expert Jon Waterman chases the truth during his one final climb of the mountain and a relates his findings in his attempt to solve one of the most colorful mountaineering mysteries ever told. The ICL is pleased to host Mr. Waterman, who will give an in-depth presentation of images, video, and storytelling reflecting upon his adventures from 40 years of mountaineering on Denali, North America’s highest mountain. The talk will begin at 11 am on Saturday, June 1st in the ICL's Community Room. No advanced registration is required, and snacks and refreshments will be provided!
