The history of mountaineering began on Denali with the legendary story of four gold miners who claimed to have summited after climbing more than 8,000 feet of steep snow and ice, then descended - in a single and incredibly dangerous day in 1910 - all the while lugging a 25-pound, 14-foot flagpole to mark their success.

Was the expedition a success or a hoax? Detailed in his newest book "Chasing Denali", Denali expert Jon Waterman chases the truth during his one final climb of the mountain and a relates his findings in his attempt to solve one of the most colorful mountaineering mysteries ever told.

The ICL is pleased to host Mr. Waterman, who will give an in-depth presentation of images, video, and storytelling reflecting upon his adventures from 40 years of mountaineering on Denali, North America’s highest mountain.

The talk will begin at 11 am on Saturday, June 1st in the ICL's Community Room. No advanced registration is required, and snacks and refreshments will be provided!
